Funeral fundraiser launched to help family of Lewis Williams in 'time of such sorrow'
A fundraising appeal has been launched to help pay for the funeral of a Doncaster man shot dead this week.
Lewis Williams was gunned down on Wath Road, Mexborough, at around 4.30pm Monday.
Paramedics battled to revive him but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three arrests have been made so far, with a 20-year-old man and two boys – aged 16 and 17 – all held on suspicion of murder.
They remained in police custody last night.
Family member Rebecka Easton has set up a crowdfunding page on the Go Fund Me website to help with funeral costs and over £400 has been raised.
She said: “In a time of desperation and sadness I would like to create a collection to go directly towards the cost of the funeral for Lewis Williams.
“Lewis devastatingly lost his life to gun crime at the age of 20 in a targeted attack and now the family will have to endure burying their beloved son, brother, partner, uncle.
“I believe this fundraising page will help the family so much in a time of such sorrow. A little donation goes a long way.”
Flowers have been left close to the spot where Lewis was killed, with one of the cards on a bouquet reading ‘my heart is shattered’.
Police officers are trawling through CCTV footage and making house-to-house enquiries in a bid to help establish exactly what happened and who was involved.
