NINE Sheffield Wednesday fans have been charged with violent disorder after a mass brawl in a pub with rival supporters.

The nine men, aged between 25 and 47, are accused of being involved in a fight with Notts County fans on Saturday, March 17, after their teams played in Nottingham earlier that day.

Nine Nottingham men, aged between 19 and 44, also face the same charge.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The fight broke out in Squares bar, just off the Old Market Square, on the evening of Saturday, March 17, and involved Sheffield Wednesday supporters who had been in the city for their club’s game against Notts County at Meadow Lane that afternoon, and men from the Nottingham area.

“The bar was full at the time, with innocent members of the public getting caught up in the disturbance which flared up without warning.”

They have all been bailed and are due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 17.

Police said CCTV footage was used to identify those involved in the disturbance.
