Five people appear at Sheffield court accused of robbing man on VE Day

Five people have had their case considered at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court after they were charged with the alleged robbery of a 41-year-old man on VE Day.

Four men, charged with the alleged robbery, include James Steven Upton, aged 25, of no fixed abode, Edward David Johnston, aged 27, of no fixed abode, Kieron Yates, aged 19, of no fixed abode, and Ryan Edward Houlston, aged 34, formerly of Bank End Avenue, Barnsley.

A 21-year-old woman, Jodie Louise Heppenstall, formerly of Princess Street, Barnsley, was also charged with robbery and a common assault.

The case was heard at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Sheffield Crown Court – today, Friday, May 15, after the alleged robbery on Friday, May 8, in Barnsley town centre.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse committed the case to Sheffield Crown Court for a plea, trial and preparation hearing on June 12.

The defendants were remanded in custody and no pleas have yet been entered.
