Sheffield Crown Court heard during a nine-week trial how nine men had pleaded not guilty to rape charges concerning the same teenage girl between September, 2010, and December, 2012.

Peter Hampton, prosecuting, said the complainant complained in 2011 but South Yorkshire Police did not investigate until five years after they had first been informed.

Mr Hampton added the convicted defendants abused and exploited the girl while she was vulnerable following a troubled childhood when she had been referred to social services.

He added the complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, resorted to drinking heavily and consuming drugs.

An older woman groomed the girl when she was 15-years-old, according to Mr Hampton, and introduced her to some of the accused.
