First pictures from M1 crash scene show large screen as fears raised for pedestrian hit by vehicle

The first pictures from a crash scene on the M1 in South Yorkshire show a large screen around the spot where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the early hours of this morning.

Monday, 20th January 2020, 11:44 am

The screen has been erected to shield the crash scene from passing motorists as collision investigators continue to carry out enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

South Yorkshire Police said emergency services were alerted to the collision on the southbound M1, between Junction 36 for Barnsley and 35A for Tankersley, at 5.30am.

The southbound stretch of the motorway remains sealed off, with enquiries expected to continue until around noon.

Traffic around the crash scene is heavy, with motorists following a signed diversion.

But a 10-vehicle collision on the nearby A628 at Flouch is adding to congestion in the area.

Police said those involved in that collision escaped with minor injuries.
