Firefighters tackled multiple incidents across South Yorkshire over festive period

It was a busy Christmas Day for the Fire and Rescue services as the firefighters responded to multiple incidents across South Yorkshire.

At 1.05am on Wednesday (December 25), a crew from Parkway attended an incident in which the car engine compartment of a vehicle had been deliberately set alight.

It took the crew around 20 minutes to extinguish the fire and left the scene at 1.19am.

In Doncaster at 3.53am, Doncaster crews were called to Grange lane in New Rossington to respond to another car fire.

A Range Rover had been set alight deliberately. The crew left at around 4.24am.

Still on Christmas Day, Tankersley crew attended a kitchen fire at 2.21pm on Sheffield Road in Birdwell.

The fire had started accidentally due to a candle, that was believed to be extinguished, being placed inside a plastic box which contained a wrapping paper.

They were however no injuries and the crew left at 2.37pm.

At 7.03pm on the same day, Elm Lane and Tankersley crew attended a kitchen fire on Hillcrest Road in Chapeltown also due to a candle.

It started accidentally as a result of a candle that had been left of a kitchen table but nobody was injured and the crews left the scene at 7.36pm after extinguishing the fire.

Finally on Christmas Day, the central crew were called to a rubbish fire on Uppergate Road at 7.19pm where a number of large refuse containers had been set alight deliberately.

After spending 30 minutes at the scene, the firefighters left at 7.51pm.

Meanwhile on Boxing Day (December 26), Central and Parkway firefighters attended an incident on Broad Street at 7.16am after receiving reports of a small fire in the front room of a derelict pub which had been set deliberately. The crews left at 7.56am.

At 8.55pm, Tankersley firefighters were called to an incident on Miles Road in High Green involving a silver BMW which had been set on fire deliberately. They then left the scene at 9.24pm.

Dearne firefighters were also called to a vehicle fire on Boxing Day at 10.28pm, where a white Ford van had been deliberately set on fire.

They left the scene at 10.51pm after extinguishing the fire.
