Firefighters tackle spate of arson attacks across South Yorkshire

Firefighters were called out to two derelict buildings set alight in arson attacks on a Barnsley street.

The buildings on Vernon Road, Worsbrough, included a former vicarage.

They were set alight at 7.55pm on Friday and 1.15pm on Saturday.

Over the weekend crews also dealt with hay bales set alight on both Mary Street, Barugh Green, Barnsley and Albany Close, Wombwell, Barnsley.

Trees were torched on Shiregreen Lane, Shiregreen, Sheffield and Chambers Road, Platts Common, Barnsley.

On Friday night a shed was also torched in another arson attack on Aughton Crescent, Woodthorpe, Sheffield, along with hay bales set on fire on Gilroyd Lane, Dodworth, Barnsley and a skip torched on Aldwarke Lane, Aldwarke, Rotherham.
