Fir Vale murder takes toll for killings in Sheffield to THREE in five weeks

The murder of a young man in Sheffield last night is the third killing in the city in the space of five weeks.

A man in his early 20s, who has not yet been named, died after two street brawls at around 8pm.

Violence flared on Earl Marshal Road, Fir Vale and then on Kirton Road, Pitsmoor, shortly afterwards.

In one of the incidents the young man was critically injured and taken to the Northern General Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said a car pulled up and medics raced outside the accident and emergency department to treat the casualty for a stab wound but he could not be saved.

Another young man sought medical attention and remains in hospital today while detectives piece together the circumstances surrounding last night’s violence.

South Yorkshire Police said the force received ‘numerous reports that a group of men were fighting and some were believed to be injured’.

The force said it is possible that others hurt in the disorder have not yet come forward.

Three arrests have been made so far, with two men in their 30s held on suspicion of murder and a man in his 50s in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

On Saturday, April 17, dad-of-three Danny Irons, 32, was stabbed to death on Fretson Green, Manor.

Daniel Chadwick, 29, of Melville Drive, Manor and Ross Turton, 29, of Danewood Avenue, Manor, have both been charged with murder.

Two other men, aged 24 and 28, who were also arrested over Danny’s death, were released under investigation after police questioning.

A few days earlier, on April 10, Sheffield solicitor Khuram Javed, also known as Khurm and Khurram, was shot dead in an alleyway on Clough Road, near Bramall Lane.

The dad-of-two worked for London Road-based law firm Alison Law Solicitors.

Samsul Mohamed, 18, of Wolseley Road, Heeley, has been charged with murder.

Three other men, aged 19, 21 and 23, were released under investigation after questioning.
