The force said Tesco on Sharrow Lane ‘has also been a target’.

Officers investigating the incidents want to hear from anyone with information.

The Sheffield South West Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Patrols are stepping up in the Abbeydale corridor as we are starting to get complaints regarding fireworks being set off in Mount Pleasant Park, Sellers Street and Sitwell Road.

“Tesco on Sharrow Lane has also been a target.

“If anyone has some information please get in touch.”

In 2015, the Abbeydale Road area was badly affected by yobs using fireworks as weapons on and in the run up to Bonfire Night.

In a night of chaos on November 5 that year, three police officers were injured in the mayhem after being hit by fireworks after terrified residents dialled 999 to report rival gangs of youths shooting fireworks at each other.

Since then there is traditionally an increased police presence in the area in the run up to Bonfire Night.

Agencies work together to plan diversionary activities for youngsters and test purchasing operations are carried out to ensure shops only sell fireworks to those legally allowed to buy them.

Anyone with information about those setting off fireworks in the run up to Bonfire Night should call 101.
