When and where did it happen?

Officers were called to flats in Devonshire Close, Newbold, at 2am today, Thursday, February 20, to concerns for a man’s safety.

What was the response?

Homes were evacuated and the bomb squad was called in following the discovery of a suspicious device.

Where was the device found?

It was discovered in an outhouse at the rear of the flats.

Has anyone been arrested?

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life/injure property. He remains in police custody.

What happened to the device?

Police said it had been destroyed.

When will residents be allowed back in?

Police said the block of flats would remain evacuated while enquiries continue.
