Emergency services rush to River Sheaf in Sheffield after man falls down embankment

Emergency services rushed to the help of a 54-year-old man who got into difficulty in the River Sheaf on Monday morning.

Police officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to the river at around 10.22am this morning (17 August) after being alerted to the incident.

The man has since been taken to hospital. His injuries are not currently known.

One witness described the scene as “intense”. He said: “A bloke fell down the embankment into the river from one of the houses from under the petrol station. He was stretchered out.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.22am this morning with reports that a man had got into difficulty in the River Sheaf. A 54 year old man has been taken to hospital.

"Officers are currently on scene and working with colleagues from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the ambulance service.”
