Police told how the motorist was spotted in a red car with two flat tyres on Handsworth Road, and when officers approached he tried to start the vehicle.

South Yorkshire Police’s Off Road Team said his breath smelt heavily of alcohol and as officers were dealing with him a report came through over the radio about the car being seen ‘all over the road’ before hitting the kerb and bursting the tyres.

"Some of our friendly armed colleagues turn up with a breath box. Unfortunately our kid thinks its a good idea to lunge at the armed officer,” said the team.

He was arrested for driving whilst unfit, with officers joking that he felt ‘very deflated’, and when he was breathalysed an hour and a half later he was still well over twice the legal limit.
