Drunk man spat at kind-hearted police officers after taking him to hospital

A man has been jailed for spitting at South Yorkshire police officers who took him to hospital after finding him drunk.

Dean Watson, aged 38 and of Monk Bretton, Barnsley, was arrested on Saturday, October 5 in an intoxicated state in Barnsley town centre.

He was taken to Barnsley Hospital for a check-up but became aggressive and spat at police officers.

Sgt Stephanie Coverley said: “While in the hospital, Watson became abusive and spat at officers.

“Watson was also using foul and inappropriate language in front of other patients and NHS staff, in what should be a safe and reassuring place for them.”

He has been jailed for 54 weeks and made the subject of a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
