Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on January 2 how offender James Horan, 34, of no fixed abode, admitted failing to comply with a suspended sentence order by failing to keep in touch with the probation service.

District Judge Paul Healey confirmed Horan had originally been subject to a community order but after he had failed to comply with this order he was made subject to a suspended prison sentence which he has now breached.

Andrew Dalrymple, defending, said Horan’s original offending related to two thefts.

Mr Dalrymple said Horan, who is from Rotherham, had been a chef and a tattooist but a drug addiction has destroyed his and his partner’s life.

He added: “Mr Horan is engaged with that battle and it’s a battle which he is not winning.”

Horan was sentenced to 18 weeks of custody.
