Sheffield Crown Court has heard how a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and three men have denied murdering 21-year-old Lewis Bagshaw after he suffered two stab wounds to the chest before he was found on Piper Crescent, near the Southey Green area of Sheffield, on July 21, 2019, and later died at hospital.
One of the accused, Nicki Humphrey, aged 42, of Avenue Grove, Harrogate, told the jury on Monday, February 10, during the on-going trial that after the incident the 17-year-old had said to him that he had just stabbed “Baggy”.

Hide AdHumphrey also said he had told the other co-accused in a car that the 17-year-old had stabbed “Baggy”, and he added that later on the 17-year-old had also said Lewis Bagshaw had deserved it.
However, defence barrister Gul Nawaz Hussain QC who represents the 17-year-old, outlined today, Tuesday, February 11, that Mr Humphrey had originally stated in a written defence statement that he had overheard a conversation between the three other co-accused to the effect the 17-year-old had stabbed Lewis Bagshaw twice.
Mr Hussain asked Humphrey why his statement was so different from what he had told the jury. Humphrey said: “I don’t know”, and he added: “I’m not lying about anything.”
The court has heard how self-confessed drug-addict Mr Humphrey was a driver for the 17-year-old who has accepted being involved in drug-dealing.

Hide AdNicholas Campbell QC, prosecuting, said Mr Bagshaw was allegedly murdered after a dispute arose following an alleged assault on Mr Bagshaw’s father Daniel Cutts in May, 2019, by the 17-year-old and Mr Humphrey over a drugs dispute.
The four accused who all deny murder include the 17-year-old boy, of no fixed abode, Callum Ramsey, 18, of Batworth Drive, Shirecliffe; Jervaise Bennett, 20, of no fixed abode; and Nicki Humphrey.
Humphrey has also pleaded not guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent upon Mr Cutts. However, the 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to this assault.
The trial continues.
