Driver released from police custody after horror Sheffield crash that left man, 86, with serious injuries

A driver who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a collision in Sheffield yesterday has been released under investigation.

The 45-year-old man was arrested after an elderly man was left with serious injuries following a collision in the Richmond area on Sunday, May 17.

Officers arrested the man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing a roadside drugs wipe.

He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police said the man was driving a red Volkswagen Golf down Fishponds Road when, at the junction with Spinkhill Road, it’s reported to have collided with a red Rover at around 12:20pm on Sunday.

The driver of the Rover, an 86-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries and is having surgery this morning, May 18.

His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 334 of May 17.
