Officers said the driver of the BMW pictured ‘totally misjudged’ a manouevre from lane three to lane one of the M1 just south of Arnsley on Saturday evening (June 15).

After striking the rear of another vehicle and spinning out of control, both cars came to a stop with fortunately nobody seriously hurt, they added.

When police arrived at the scene, they breathalysed the BMW driver and found the person to be over four times over the legal limit for driving.

A police spokesperson said: “Astounding that the driver has shown such a blatant disregard to the lives of others.

“This collision could easily have ended in another tragedy. We can only hope that the courts impose a lengthy driving ban along with imprisonment which we shall urge the Crown Prosecution Service to seek upon sentence.

“If anyone is ever tempted to drink and drive, this is self explanatory.”
