Driver arrested after failing roadside drug test in Sheffield

A driver was arrested after failing a roadside drug test in Sheffield following a routine traffic stop on Saturday evening.

Four police cars were spotted near to Violet Bank Road, Nether Edge at around 6.30 yesterday (16 May), with motorists reportedly unable to access nearby Briar Road while police dealt with the incident. It is believed the man could have been stopped on Machon Bank Road.

The 29-year-old failed a roadside drugs test and was found in possession of what was suspected to be cannabis when he was pulled over as part of a routine stop by officers.

As well as his arrest, police also seized the man’s vehicle.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police told The Star: “This was a routine traffic stop which led to a 29-year-old man being arrested after failing a roadside drugs test and found in possession of suspected cannabis.

“His vehicle was also seized.”
