Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on February 20 how Christopher Foggarty, aged 50, of Sheepcote Road, Windsor, became stuck at Shrewsbury Road, Sheffield, in his Ford Mondeo.

Alison Goldsack, prosecuting, said Foggarty was unfamiliar with the area and became stuck on the tracks.

Foggarty told police he had been stressed at the potential danger as a tram approached and stopped and he was passed a drink by a youth and he realised it was alcoholic.

He added he had also consumed wine earlier in the day but had not consumed any food.

Foggarty pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after registering 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

The defendant was fined £350 and ordered to pay a £35 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was banned from driving for 12 months.
