Doncaster Scouts' camping trips at risk after thieves steal gas bottles in HQ break-in

Camping trips for a Doncaster Scout group have been put at risk after thieves stole gas bottles from the troupe’s headquarters.

Unless replacements can be found, trips could be in jeopardy – with the gas bottles used for cooking on weekend camping expeditions.

Now an appeal has gone out for replacement gas bottles as well as helping to make the premises of the group, which is based in Sprotbrough, more concern.

One mum, whose son attends the 28th St Edmunds Scout group in Anchorage Lane said: “Over the Christmas period, some unscrupulous individuals took it upon themselves to target the 28th St Edmunds Scout Hut on Anchorage Lane.

“They broke into the caged storage facility and took all the gas bottles.

“The leaders, friends and families have worked so hard to fund raise for the group.

“We are already trying to raise funds towards replacing our trailer but this latest blow has left everyone feeling so disheartened. Camping cannot happen with no gas to cook.

“Scouting does so much for the children in our community and supports us in raising children with practical skills and a sense of social responsibility.

“My son had me in tears tonight as he offered to donate all his pocket money!

“If anyone feels able to donate anything towards this project, the team would be so grateful

“Also if anyone has the equipment or skills to make good the storage cage or help shore up the hut to deter future burglars we would be so thankful.”
