Doncaster prisoner gets more time behind bars after scalding fellow inmate with hot water

Sheffield Crown Court heard on September 28 how Connor Patterson, aged 25, who is a prisoner at HMP Doncaster, poured a kettle of scalding hot water over the inmate causing burns and blisters.
Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said: “The complainant was in his cell and Patterson entered and poured a kettle containing scalding water over his right side covering his head, ear, neck and back.”

Hide AdThe complainant was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with burns and blisters and said there had been no previous difficulties with Patterson and he had wished him happy birthday the day before the attack.
Mr Jones said the complainant now feels withdrawn and lives in fear of future attacks.
Patterson, who has previous convictions for battery, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
James Gould, defending, said Patterson has been in custody since April, 2019, after he was remanded and sentenced for another matter and was due for release on January 29 but he has had to wait to be sentenced for this assault which happened in prison on April 28, 2019.

Hide AdJudge Rachael Harrison described Patterson’s victim as vulnerable with no where to run.
However, despite considering a 24-month custodial sentence she acknowledged there has been a delay with this case and sentenced Patterson to ten months of custody.
Patterson is expected to serve half of that term before being released on licence by February 18.
