Doncaster man who assaulted police officer and stole gin is put on a curfew by court

A Doncaster man who assaulted a police officer, threatened a member of the public and stole a bottle of gin has been put on an electronically-monitored curfew.

Alan Clarke admitted the offences when he appeared before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on December 31 last year.

The 45-year-old, of Grainger Close, Edlington, Doncaster, admitted assaulting an emergency worker, threatening behaviour and stealing a bottle of gin from B&M Bargains on November 3, 2020.

He was given a community order to include an eight-week curfew which will run until February 27 between the hours of 7pm and 8am daily.

However, magistrates agreed to lift the curfew between 10pm and 11pm to allow Clarke to exercise his dog, after he told the court he did not have access to a garden.

Clarke must also pay £100 in compensation to the police officer he assaulted and £3.99 to B&M Bargains for the gin. Magistrates didn’t impose costs or a victim surcharge because they wanted to prioritise the compensation.
