Dog found in Swallownest with severe skin condition and open wounds

The Staffordshire bull terrier type dog was spotted on Mason Avenue in the Swallownest area on Tuesday (January 28) and taken to a local vet practice.

Liz Braidley, an RSPCA animal welfare officer said: “Initially it looked like she had been in a fight or attacked, such was the severity of the wounds.

“However after sedating her and cleaning the injuries up, vets now believe that she has caused the injuries herself by scratching as a result of a severe skin infection.

“She was very timid and frightened at the vets, and especially wary of men.

“It’s thought she has recently had puppies as she had pronounced teets.”

The dog wasn’t wearing a collar and ID tag - as required by law - or microchipped, so there is no way of tracing her owner.

Liz said: “Someone has let this poor girl get into a right mess.

“It was obvious to anyone that she needed urgent veterinary attention.

“If anyone recognises her or saw anything that might help me to track down her owner please call the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for me.”
