Detectives investigating the murder of a Sheffield man on his way home from work were granted more time to question a suspect yesterday.

A 45-year-old man was arrested over the murder of Simon Holdsworth, 36, on Tuesday afternoon and was still being questioned last night.

Mr Holdsworth, a paint sprayer, of Westfield Avenue, Hackenthorpe, was on his way home from work when he was attacked on Monday, December 16.

His body was found in a field off Birley Spa Lane the following morning.

A post mortem examination revealed he had suffered severe head injuries.

He had left work in Intake and had caught a bus to Hackenthorpe, but did not return home when expected.
