Detectives investigating the death of a Sheffield student who vanished on a night out are continuing to piece together the final moments of her life today.
Last night a man arrested on suspicion of raping Caroline Everest before her body was found in a city river remained in police custody.
The 31-year-old was arrested after CCTV footage captured him and Caroline together on the night she vanished.
Caroline, whose family lives in Walkley, was on a night out in Sheffield city centre when she vanished in the early hours of Sunday.
The Sheffield Hallam University student, who lived in student accommodation in Fitzalan Square in the city centre, was captured on CCTV leaving the Corporation nightclub in Milton Street alone, then one minute later she can be seen with a man outside the Devonshire Cat pub in Wellington Street.
Just less than an hour later the pair are seen parting company in Napier Street, Sharrow.
Tens minutes later - at 3.35am - CCTV cameras picked up Caroline alone in Summerfield Street, at the bottom of Ecclesall Road, walking towards the Porter Brook, where her body was found two days later.
South Yorkshire Police detectives are treating her death as ‘unexplained’.
They said a post mortem examination proved ‘inconclusive’.
Further test are to be carried out.
