Sheffield Crown Court heard on March 20 how Shaun Kelly, 51, of Victoria Street, Sheffield, had been visiting Changing Lives, on Princess Street, Doncaster, when he verbally abused and threatened one of the centre workers.Neil Coxon, prosecuting, said: “She had allowed him to use her phone to make enquires about obtaining medication but the defendant became agitated with the person on the phone and he hung up.”Mr Coxon added that Kelly became agitated towards the centre worker and said: “Do you know what I am like without medication? I am going to get some guns and shoot you all.”Kelly appeared to reach inside his jacket and the centre worker thought he intended to produce a weapon to hurt or kill her, according to Mr Coxon.Mr Coxon said the centre worker brought shutters down on a separate part of the office and the defendant left.Kelly, who has 69 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to affray after the incident in February.Mr Davies, defending, said Kelly has expressed remorse for his actions.Mr Davies added: “It was born out of frustration and it was a stupid and very scary situation for the two people working In this centre.“He had just been released from custody and he was sleeping rough at the time and he was struggling to obtain medication.”The court heard that at the time of the offence Kelly had just been released from prison on licence for possession of a weapon but this matter was revoked and he was returned to prison to serve the full extent of that related sentence.Mr Davies said the phone call had been to the defendant’s doctor’s surgery and they had told him he would have to wait 24 hours for any medication.Kelly had been taking medication for depression and anxiety, according to Mr Davies, and the defendant claims he has a borderline personality disorder.Judge Sarah Wright, who sentenced Kelly to 18 months of custody, told him: “You threatened to harm her and she feared for her life and you left her shocked and scared.”
