Police have issued an E-fit of a man they want to trace after a pensioner was had cash stolen from his home during a distraction burglary.

Officers investigating the offence said an 82-year-old man, from Mill Lane, Grassmoor, Chesterfield, answered his door to two men claiming to have been sent by the local council to check his chimney.

The OAP allowed them into his home and one stayed with him in the living room while officers believe the other searched the property.

Police said the pensioner later discovered that a large amount of cash had been taken.

One man was white with a tanned complexion, around 5ft 7ins tall, between 20 and 30 years old and of a large build.

The other was of a similar age, build and complexion but was several inches shorter than the first man.

Both wore baseball caps, dark padded jackets, dark trousers and boots.

A witness saw two men drop some cash near the victim’s house before picking it up and running away at around 9am on Friday, April 4.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw two men fitting this description and any suspicious vehicles in the area at the time.
