Dedicated off-duty officer praised for arresting two burglary suspects in Sheffield

A police officer has been praised for detaining two burglary suspects in a Sheffield suburb on Friday evening (January 10) whilst off duty.

Detailing the incident on Twitter, Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson of South Yorkshire Police said the incident occurred on Ringinglow Road when one of his detective sergeants was driving home from work.

He said: "One of my off-duty DS's, without PPE/radio/cuffs, driving home from work, just detained two men in a house on Ringinglow Road.

"He saw them acting suspicious, pulled over, went to check what they were doing and caught them in the process of coming the stairs with stolen property on them.

"Thanks to the help of a passerby, he managed to restrain them until colleagues arrived.

"They are now in custody thanks to the awesome work of this dedicated officer who is an absolute credit to @syptweet @SYPSheffield 1107."
