It is believed that a group of men entered a property and fired shots at two men who were known to them.

Three men aged 40, 32 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to the incident.

Although T/Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson reassured the community that this is believed to be a targeted attack, residents say they feel worried and unsafe.

He added: “A scene is currently in place at the property while officers carry out their enquiries.

“I would like to reassure the community that we believe this is a targeted attack and we will be carrying out additional patrols in the area.

A woman who was visiting her elderly mother on the road said she has urged her to move out of the area because she doesn’t feel she’s safe in Darnall anymore.

She said: “My mum’s lived here for 25 years. She’s got Alzheimer's and when she sees police tape up like this she gets upset and is just petrified.”

“I’m really worried for her, we’re trying to get her out of Darnall. There’s just too much crime happening.”

A young woman who lives on the street added: “I fret about the number of crimes that have happened recently. There was a shooting up the road a month ago, and low level stuff like windows being put through.

“You see police when something like this happens but not day to day.”

This shooting comes just seven weeks after a 28-year-old man was shot nearby.

The man was shot in his upper body during a confrontation with a number of people who pulled up alongside him in two cars as he walked through Darnall, on January 24.

The incident happened on Staniforth Road, just around the corner from Shirland Lane.
