Danny Irons murder: Heartbroken Sheffield mum says ‘her life has changed forever’ as she plans son’s funeral
The heartbroken mum of a Sheffield murder victim has paid tribute to her son after arranging his funeral.
Danny Irons, aged 32, was stabbed in an attack on Fretson Green, Manor, in the early hours of Saturday, April 17.
The dad-of-three was found critically injured and was pronounced dead at the scene – triggering a murder probe.
A huge police cordon was erected while forensic searches were carried out and patrols were stepped up in the shocked community.
Danny was killed just yards away from a children’s playground used by local families.
His grieving mum Christine Irons, 51, from Hackenthorpe, said her life has never been the same since police officers called at her home in the middle of the night to inform her of Danny’s death.
“His death has left us all heartbroken, there is a huge hole now which will never be filled,” she said.
Christine, who has a daughter, Kirsty, and a son, Adam, added: “My life has changed forever. From the moment those officers knocked on my door, my life changed and I don’t think I will ever be the same person again.
“It does not seem real.”
Paying tribute to her beloved son, she said: “He was the kindest and most loving person you could ever meet. He would do anything for anybody.”
Christine, who is preparing to see Danny’s body today for the first time since his death, has planned his funeral and hopes that changes in lockdown rules may allow a full turn out for his service.
“We don’t know how many will be allowed yet but want to be able to give him the send off he deserves, to show how loved he was,” she said.
The funeral service is to be held at City Road Crematorium at 11.15am on Monday, May 17.
Mourners in the funeral procession are due to leave from Christine’s home.
Special T-shirts have been printed up for a number of those due to attend the service.
Two men have been charged with Danny’s murder – Daniel Chadwick, 29, of Melville Drive, Manor and Ross Turton, 29, of Danewood Avenue, Manor.
Anyone with information about the murder should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and quote incident number 29 of April 17.
