Danger warning issued by South Yorkshire Police after electricity substation break-in
A warning has been issued by South Yorkshire Police after an electricity substation was broken into.
Thieves broke into a Northern Powergrid substation in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, between 4pm and 5pm on Monday July 27 and stole earthing cable.
Rotherham Inspector Caroline Bakewell said: “We are working hard to identify those responsible for the theft but I also want to raise awareness of the dangers of entering electricity substations.“People who attack substations are not only breaking the law, they are putting the safety of people, including themselves, at risk. High electricity voltage runs through these sites and there is a real risk of electrocution.“This type of crime can also have a major impact on the community, including hospitals, who could be left with no electricity supply if cables are stolen.“I would encourage anyone with any information about the theft to speak to us.”
Anyone with any information should call 101 and quote 14/112596/20.
