Crackdown on rural highway

FORTY motorists were caught out by police in a crackdown on a rural North Derbyshire road.

Officers from the Clay Cross Safer Neighbourhood Teams joined the Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team, DVLA and Customs during the clampdown on the A61 through Shirland.

Some 26 motorists were caught for not wearing seatbelts, two for using mobile phones while driving and one had no MOT. Others had illegal tyre treads or window tints or committed registration plate offences. Five motorists’ cars had serious defects.
