Covid-19: 14 more patients die across South Yorkshire as county stays at Tier 3

A further 14 patients have lost their lives in South Yorkshire after battling coronavirus, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

One more person has died in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data, bringing the total Covid-19 related fatalities in the city to 535.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, there were six more fatalities in Doncaster, where the death toll now stands at 498.

In Rotherham there was one additional death, taking the total to 385 and in Barnsley there have now been 367 deaths, after six more were recorded.

It comes after it was announced that Sheffield will remain under Tier 3 restrictions following a review.

This means that pubs and restaurants are still only allowed to operate as a takeaway and households are banned from mixing.

The rules will be loosened for five days over the festive period when three households will be allowed to form a ‘Christmas bubble’- but Boris Johnson urged people to exercise ‘extreme caution’ and avoid seeing elderly relatives.
