Court case of two Sheffield men accused of murdering Paul Crossley adjourned

Two men accused of murdering 53-year-old Paul Crossley have been remanded in custody until a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Sheffield Crown Court heard today, Tuesday, May 26, how Richard Ferrie, aged 44, of Moncrieffe Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, and Sean Holt, aged 44, of Longley Hall Way, Longley, Sheffield, were allegedly involved in an altercation with Mr Crossley between 9pm and 10pm, on May 15.

Police previously stated Mr Crossley suffered a serious head injury during an alleged altercation between a group of men on Longley Hall Way and he died at hospital due to his injuries on May 19.

Judge Roger Thomas QC said: “The incident bringing about Mr Crossley’s death goes back to Friday, May 15, and he was taken to hospital and died last Tuesday, May 19.”

He told the court it has not been possible for the defendants to be seen by their advocates over a TV link because of coronavirus difficulties so the matter would need to be adjourned for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Judge Thomas adjourned the case until July 1 for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Sheffield Crown Court and further remanded both defendants in custody.

The court heard a possible trial date has been earmarked for November.
