A Sheffield councillor has urged witnesses to come forward after a man was shot on a city street.

Mazher Iqbal, who represents Darnall, issued his plea as detectives continue to investigate a shooting in which a man was critically injured.

A 28-year-old man was shot in his upper chest during an incident on Staniforth Road on Saturday, January 4.

He was involved in an altercation with the occupants of two cars who pulled up alongside him as he walked through Darnall.

The victim remains in hospital today.

A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the shooting but nobody has yet been charged.

Coun Iqbal said: “There is an ongoing investigation, arrests have been made, and we support the appeal for witnesses to come forward.”
