Chesterfield Road Sheffield: Man who spent 12 hours on roof is sentenced in court for affray and harassment

A 33-year-old man who stood on a rooftop by a busy Sheffield road for over 12 hours this week has been sentenced in court.

Emergency services were called to Chesterfield Road in Heeley at around 4.30am on Monday, August 8, due to concerns for a man’s safety.

The lone male remained on the roof of the Victorian terraced house for over 12 hours, sparking a huge emergency response.

The major Sheffield road was closed to motorists for the entire incident and bus routes had to be diverted.

He was brought down shortly before 6pm and was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, affray and criminal damage.

Police have now confirmed that Jamie Stones, aged 33, of Chesterfield Road, was charged with affray and harassment.

He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 10, when he pleaded guilty to both charges.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, which has been suspended for nine months.
