The English Pewter Company on Petre Street has shared the pictures after two men pulled up to their factory, snuck in through an open shutter and carried out armfuls of the solid metal sheets.

When they tried to return for a second haul, the masked men were confronted by members of staff, causing them to run to their silver Saab 9-3 and speed off.

The business is asking anyone who recognises the men pictured or has any information about the incident, which happened on Monday, July 19, at 3.50pm, to contact the police.

Managing director Jason Sharp said the theft was “the last thing the business needed” after the struggles of the pandemic.

He said: “It could have been much worse. When they tried to leave the first time, they knocked an industrial fan which alerted a member of staff to what was happening.

"We only had the metal shutter open because of the heat this week. You’ve got to be so, so careful.

"I just feel like at at time when businesses have had it tough anyway, and when staff are doing a fantastic job of getting us back to where we were, it’s just the last thing we need.

"It’s just frustrating.”

Jason says the brazen daylight theft comes after the business was targeted in a ram raid in February.
