CCTV appeal after reported rape in Doncaster
A CCTV appeal has been launched after a 39-year-old woman was reportedly raped in Doncaster town centre.
The woman told police she had been attacked on Pells Close, just off Printing Office Street, on Sunday morning, between 6.45am and 7am.
Detectives investigating the case today released CCTV footage and asked for help to identify the people pictured.
Detective Inspector Lee Townley, who is leading the inquiry, said: “We know that the woman, who continues to be supported by officers, had left Kooky’s nightclub on Silver Street, earlier that morning.
“There were a lot of people about, some of who are pictured in the CCTV, who we know were nearby and may have spoken to her prior to the offence occurring.
“We are particularly keen to identify and speak to the man seen in the moving footage and in some of the stills. He is described as black, about 5ft4ins, and of a slight build. He could hold vital information about what happened.
“Do you recognise him? If you are the man or know who he is, please contact us. We’re also keen to speak to people who were out that night and who were on Silver Street, Printing Office Street and near to Pells Close in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“Since Sunday morning, officers in CID have maximised forensic opportunities, conducted an extensive CCTV trawl of the area and worked with the victim to obtain as much information as possible.
“I know and appreciate that an incident of this nature will be of concern to the local community but I’d like to reassure you that we have dedicated officers assigned to this case who are working incredibly hard to identify the man involved.
“As our enquiries continue, it is vital that we trace the people in the footage. We believe they could hold key information about the offender.
“If you do recognise any of the people in the footage, or you are in the footage, please speak to us, you can come to College Road station or phone us on one 101. You can also speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“Please quote incident number 284 of November 17 when passing on information.”
