A CASHIER at a car dealership in Sheffield has been locked up for a year after admitting stealing nearly £22,000 from the firm.

Katie James, aged 29, altered computer and paper records for cash deposits taken from customers at Mercedes Benz on Sheffield Road, Meadowhall, then pocketed the cash.

James, of Oxclose Park Gardens, Halfway, admitted theft and false accounting between August 2007 and January 2010.

Sheffield Crown Court heard when area cashier James entered the details of cash deposits into a cash book and onto the computer she changed the amounts and stole the surplus cash.

James stole a total of £21,859 over two-and-a-half years. She was jailed for 12 months and £500 found at her home was seized.
