Carers arrested after reports of 'neglect' at South Yorkshire care home

An investigation has been launched and two women arrested after reports of neglect at a Barnsley care home.

The carers, both from Barnsley, were arrested yesterday (Monday 22 June) after police were alerted to the images of apparent neglect that had been posted to social media.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “An investigation is now underway and we are working closely with the care home as part of our inquiry.

“The women were arrested on suspicion of ill treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker and have now been released under investigation.

“Families of residents at the care home have been informed and are being kept up to date with progress.

Det Insp Etheridge said the nursing home had co-operated with South Yorkshire Police in relation to the incident.

The two workers have been suspended from work. Adult Social Care have also been made aware and the CQC notified.
