Cannabis set-up found and man rushed to hospital after Sheffield flat fire
A cannabis set-up was found when firefighters were deployed to reports of a flat fire in Sheffield in the early hours of this morning.
The alarm was raised at 3am when an elderly man reported smoke in his flat on Sharrow Road, Sharrow.
He was given fire survival advice from a 999 operator until firefighters arrived at the scene and led him to safety.
The man was then taken to hospital as a precaution.
During the firefighting operation it was discovered that the fire had broken out in the attic of a neighbouring flat, where a cannabis set-up was found.
A total of four flats were evacuated.
Police officers remain at the scene.
South Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services attended alongside other agencies to ensure the buildings and occupants were safe.
“Highways England helped with road closures while enquiries were conducted.
