A SHEFFIELD Council tenant has been evicted after police raided the flat and found cannabis plants and equipment to cultivate the illegal crop.

Officers raided Matthew Booth’s home on Deer Park Road, Stannington, in September and he was later convicted of producing cannabis there.

The offence came a year after Booth, aged 38, helped distract a 91-year-old man at his home while his partner, Cheryl Kempton, entered the OAP’s house and stole money.

Kempton also tricked an 87-year-old, into withdrawing savings from their bank and ended up serving a 35-month jail term for the offences.

Coun Harry Harpham, council member for homes, said: “We will not tolerate this unacceptable behaviour from our tenants. Not only was the tenant using his home to produce an illegal drug but he also stole from vulnerable local residents.

“There is absolutely no other alternative for this tenant but eviction.”
