Breaking: Sheffield police officer to go on trial

A SOUTH Yorkshire police officer is to go on trial today accused of causing death by careless driving.

PC Rodney Mills, 42, is accused of causing the death of 19-year-old university student Jamie Haslett in a collision in Sheffield in October 2010.

The officer was driving a police car when it was involved in the collision with Mr Haslett at the junction of Broad Lane and Mappin Street.

Mr Haslett, originally from the Isle of Man, was in his second year of a Sport and Business Management degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

Mills, from Mosborough, is due to appear at Bradford Crown Court.
