A boozy motorist was caught drink-driving on Sheffield Parkway

A booze-fulled motorist was caught over the drink-drive limit after he was spotted driving at speed.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard today, Thursday, January 9, how Dragos Florian Dumitrescu, aged 29, of Stoneycroft Road, Handsworth, Sheffield, was seen by police driving at speed on Sheffield Parkway.

Matthew Duffy, prosecuting, said Dumitrescu was seen driving at speed in a Jaguar XF on January 7 just after midnight and he was stopped after entering a slip road.

Dumitrescu failed a breath test after police smelled alcohol and he later registered 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes, according to Mr Duffy.

He pleaded guilty to exceeding the drink-drive limit.

Dumitrescu said he works with Amazon and had just had a difficult week and he had seen friends and consumed alcohol.

He was fined £500 and must pay £85 costs and a £50 victim surcharge. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
