Anthony Wragg, 49, of Birchwood Drive, Ravenfield, Rotherham, had been walking along Wellgate, at Rotherham, when he allegedly walked into the parked vehicle and struck the windscreen, according to a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing on December 31.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said Wragg was stumbling and the driver of the parked car thought the defendant was drunk before he walked into his vehicle and punched the windscreen.

Janice Young, defending, said Wragg admitted damaging the windscreen but the defendant claims the vehicle had driven up and hit him and he had banged on the windscreen out of shock. She added he had not intended to damage the glass.

Magistrates sentenced Wragg to a 12-month conditional discharge. He must pay £150 compensation, £40 costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
