Booze-fuelled Sheffield motorist caught over the limit visiting ex-partner

A booze-fuelled motorist was caught over the drink-drive limit after he visited his ex-partner.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard today, Thursday, March 12, how Christopher Hicks, 31, of Alport Road, Frecheville, was found over the limit on Rainbow Avenue, Birley, on February 2.

David Marshall, prosecuting, said: “Mr Hicks drove to his ex-partner’s and it was about 2.30am and police were called and he got back into his Nissan Micra car and as they arrived he started driving away a short distance before police stopped him.”

Hicks pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after he registered 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

The defendant said he has been undergoing treatment for cancer and he has been struggling with personal circumstances including an eviction process.

Magistrates ordered Hicks to pay £197 including a fine, a victim surcharge and costs. He was banned from driving for 12 months.
