Bomb squad race to Sheffield high-rise flats where gun was found

The bomb squad has been called to a block of flats in Sheffield where a gun was found yesterday.

The firearm was found during a search of a flat in the Cliff Block on Deer Park View, Stannington.

A 36-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm remains in police custody today.

During yesterday’s arrest, firefighters were called as a precaution after information emerged about chemicals stored at the flat.

Some residents in the tower block were evacuated as a precaution until substances were removed.

Today, police remain at the scene and the army’s bomb squad has arrived.

South Yorkshire Police said: “The man arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of a firearm remains in police custody.

"Our enquiries are ongoing, and officers remain at the scene to carry out a search of an address in Deer Park View.”
