Bomb squad carry out controlled explosion after device found in Sheffield

A controlled explosion was carried out by bomb disposal officers after a device dating back to the Boer War was found at a property in Sheffield.

Police received a call yesterday, (Thursday, August 6) at around 5:45pm to reports of an incendiary device at a house in Ughill.

Officers and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team swooped shortly afterwards and identified the device as a shrapnel round from the Boer War.

The EOD team arrived this morning to carry out a controlled explosion.
