Birley Moor Road: Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after assault outside Sherwood pub, Sheffield

Police were called to reports of an attack near the Sherwood pub, on Birley Moor Road, last Saturday (April 19) at 8.37pm.

The victim was quickly taken to hospital with a head injury, and was described by South Yorkshire Police as being in a ‘serious condition’.

Following an appeal for information, officers have now arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with this assault.

He remains in police custody at this time.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Thank you to those who has already contacted us following our appeal for information.

“We are still keen to hear from any witnesses to the incident and anyone who may have dashcam footage prior to, or after, the incident.
