Bike thieves on the prowl in Sheffield

Police have warned people that bike thieves are on the prowl in Sheffield.

Thursday, 3rd December 2020, 7:24 pm

They say the crooks are riding scooters, with the pillion passengers – who usually don’t wear a helmet – ready to jump down and pedal off on the stolen bicycle.

PSCO Chris Bell, of the Sheffield Central neighbourhood policing team, said the passenger would then often get picked up again, with one witness having seen a moped heading towards the Parkway carrying a passenger who had a bike hanging off his arm.

Police say bike thieves are operating on mopeds

One of the latest bicycles to go missing was taken from outside the popular Italian restaurant Domo at Eagle Works in Kelham Island last week, he said.

PCSO Bell issued a warning today, Thursday, December 3, as he urged people to ‘keep an eye out’ for the criminals operating in their neighbourhood.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number 101.
